The play(writing)’s the thing for Expats.cz and Prague.tv. The two powerhouse Prague media companies have  joined up to become partners in the Czech Republic’s only English Language playwriting contest.

The annual competition will celebrate its fourth year with a new name: The Expats.cz and Prague.tv Playwriting Contest.

The contest started in 2007 with simple premise: Find the best three one-act plays in English, written by current or former residents of the Czech Republic, stage them at Prague’s Divadlo Minor, and pick a winner of a cash prize of 10,000 kc.

The leaders of both new partners are excited by the prospect of carrying the contest into its fourth year.

Martin Howlings, owner of Expats.cz – The Czech Republic's Expat Website for the international community – says that "Expats.cz is proud to support this project. The playwriting contest brings together all members of the community to share in new and exciting ideas and promotes friendly co-operation. These are all values that Expats.cz feels are in line with its own mission, and we wish to increase community participation wherever possible."

Prague.tv co-owner Jeff Smith concurs. "The contest is about helping the arts, encouraging new talent, and building community. Prague TV is proud to support these goals."

In Expats.cz and Prague.tv, the playwriting contest is gaining two partners who bring innovation, vision and media market penetration to the footlights.
